Satan tempts Jesus
The above verse tells us that God prepared him by sending him to the wilderness and subjected him to be tested by the tempter satan, the old serpent. The bible tells us that Jesus fasted for forty days and forty nights and afterwards He was very Hungry. The same old tempter who tempted the first human pair came to Jesus and asked.
"If you are the son of God, command that these stones become bread." (Mathew 4:3) Jesus answered and said it is written
" Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Mathew 4:4; Deut 8:3)
Satan took Him to the pinnacle of the temple and said to Him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down.(Mathew 4:6)
Jesus said to him, "It is written again, "You shall not tempt the Lord your God." (Mathew 4:7, Deut 8:16)
Again the devil took Him to the top of the high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory, and said," All these things I will give you if you will fall down and worship me." Then Jesus said to him
" Away with you satan ! For it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve," (Mat 4:10;Deut 6:13)
From the above we notice, The devil, tried to tempt Jesus with three questions in a different way, but with the same motive he used to deceive the first human pair and the pride that the whole world and its authority are in his hands and wanted Jesus to fall down and worship him and accept him. He pretty well knew that Jesus is the son of God . Yet he tried to tempt him using the word of God and twisting it. Jesus did not heed and the devil left Him. The angels came and ministered to Him.
Let us turn to the next post to see How Jesus Ministered and Revealed the Great "I AM"
