The Long promised messiah who preached the great sermon on the Mount, who sent out the twelve disciple to preach, who spoke in parables about the kingdom, taught about the discipleship and the coming of the Kingdom of God was rejected by the Pharisees and the Saducees. They could not accept " Jesus as their messiah " as their expectation of the Jewish messiah to be a warrior king to overthrow roman occupation of Israel. They did not have enough light of Gods word and His salvation plans. Look at the following verses.
Saying, " The son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes and be killed and be raised the third day." (Luke 9:22)
Let these words sink down into your ears, for the son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men. (Luke 9:45)
He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. (John 1:11)
And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority? (Mathew 21:23)
Jesus Prophesies of the signs of the end
Jesus denounced the scribes and the pharisees and before his betrayal prophesied on various things such as Judgment, Destruction of the temple at Jerusalem, signs of the end times and the coming of the Son of man again.
Jesus at the institution of Last Supper with His disciples predicts Betrayal
In the evening He came with the Twelve. Now as they sat and ate, Jesus said, " Assuredly I say to you, one of you who eats with me will betray Me.(Mark 14:17-18)
Jesus while instituting the Last Supper to His disciples predicts that one of the disciples who sits with Him and partakes will betray Him.
Attitude of Jesus
In contrast to Lucifer the created angel who later fell because of his pride and was cast out of God's sanctuary, note the attitude of Jesus. Remember that Jesus was not a created being, like Lucifer who is called Satan. Jesus is co-equal and co-eternal with God, "begotten, not created." Yet look at His attitude!
Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work." ( John 4:34)
"For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me." ( John 6:38)
In the Garden of Gethsemane, facing the Cross:
He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will" (Matthew 26:39)
Note the attitude of the Son of God, who came down from Heaven, His humility and His obedience.
Jesus betrayed and arrested
And Immediately, while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, with a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and the elders. Now his betrayer has given them a signal, saying, "Whomever I kiss. He is the one, take Him and lead Him away safely. And as soon as he had come,... He went upto Him and said to Him, " Rabbi, Rabbi and kissed Him.Then they laid their hands on Him and took Him (Mark 14:43-46)
Judas Who was one of the disciples as predicted by Jesus, betrays Jesus By kissing him and identifies him to be taken by the priests and elders.
JesusTrial Crucifixion and death
After this the trial was conducted by the Jews and Jesus was mocked and spat on. He was condemned and was taken to Pilate the Roman emperor for questioning. Pilates soldiers mocked at Jesus and finally Pilate issues His final sentence. Jesus was crucified. There were three Hours of darkness and Finally Jesus dies.
So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, " It is finished!". And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. (John 19:30)
"At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom (Mathew 27:51)
But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead...........But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. (John 19: 33-34)
As Jesus hung upon the cross paying the price of our sin, the heavy veil in the temple was torn in two by an unseen hand. It was the divine announcement that because of Jesus Christ's (God's Son's) death, a right way had been made open to the presence of God (Jesus walked through the way triumphantly removing the burning sword kept by God) that was sealed when the first human pair sinned, which all could use now through this way made possible by God.
The writer to Hebrews tells us in chapter 4 verse 16 that because we have now access into the presence of God, we must enter confidently, not hesitatingly, uncertainly, undecided.
