I (Jesus Christ) have come that they may have life, and they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10) So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.(Hebrews 9:28)

Resurrection Appearance and Ascension

Jesus Resurrection and appearance

After resurrection Jesus made Ten appearances To Mary Magdalene in the Garden, To the women returning to the Garden, To two disciples on Emmaus Road, To Peter in Jerusalem, To Ten Apostles in the upper room, To the eleven in the upper room, To the seven Apostles by the sea of Galilee, To the eleven and 500 believers on mount Tabor, To the eleven and James in Jerusalem and to the eleven on the Mount of Olive.

The Great commission

"Then Jesus came to them, saying, " All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. " Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the Age" (Mathew 28:18-20)

Jesus gave his disciples the great commission to go to all the nations and the ends of the earth to tell them that all authority is given unto him and to make them come into the knowledge of Him and His Godhead.

Jesus promise to His disciples of the coming of Holy Spirit

And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which He said, you have heard from Me. (Acts 1:4)

" But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8)

Jesus while He was ministering to His disciples predicted about His rejection by His own people, His betrayal and has to die and He is to go away to Him who has sent Him. It is to their advantage that He has to go away. If He does not go the Helper (The Holy Spirit)  would not come. If He goes He will send Him to them who will always be with them. When He the spirit of truth comes into them , He will guide them into all truth. When He comes He will convict the world of Sin and of Righteousness and judgement.

His Ascension

While they watched He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight....while they looked....towards Heaven as He went up, behold two men stood by them in white apparel who also said, " Men of Galilee why do you stand gazing upto heaven?. This same Jesus who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in like manner as you saw Him go to heaven. (Acts 1:9-11)

As predicted by Jesus that He is to go away to Him who has sent Him, He was taken up in the clouds into heaven.
The Promised Helper Arrives

The Disciples returned to Jerusalem........ They all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the woman and Mary The mother of Jesus and with her brothers. ( Acts 1:12-14)

Now when the day of Pentecost had fully come (Fifty days after ascension) they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues as of fire and one sat upon each other.. and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the spirit gave them utterance.. (Acts 2: 2:1-4)

The above verses tells us, as promised by Jesus the disciples including Mary the mother of Jesus was there in the upper room and they received the promised helper, comforter and the truth of Spirit with power upon them to speak different languages as commanded by the Lord Jesus to go out into Jerusalem , Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth to proclaim the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God and make them disciples.

Let us turn to the next post to see Why God has to be revealed in flesh?
