Then the lord God put the man whom he had formed, in a Garden he had planted eastward of Eden. ( This is the same Garden where the Chief Angel Lucifer was kept for guarding the earth , who later by his rebellion with god was cast out of God's sanctuary and became the Devil). God put man in this Garden of Eden to tend and keep it.
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying. "Of every tree of the Garden you may freely eat; "But of the tree of the knowledge of Good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.( Genesis 2:16-17)
Why God issued that command?
Angelic beings are invisible beings created in heaven. Their specific duty is to worship God in his sanctuary and are consecrated for special service to God. The chief Angel who was supposed to be the Light bearer rebelled against God and sinned and was cast out of heaven and has become an evil.
God Because He is almighty and of his foreknowledge that evil is in this world wanted man not to be tempted by the devil and deceived and be lost in their relationship with their creator
The Temptation and Fall of Man
Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made, And He said to the woman, 'Has God indeed said, " You shall not eat out of every tree of the Garden?" (Gen 3:1)
And the woman said to the serpent, 'We may eat the fruit of the tree of the garden; But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said you shall not eat, nor shall you touch it, lest you die." And the serpent said to the woman. " You will not surely die (A lie)." For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God knowing good and evil." (Gen 3:2-5)
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate.She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they knew that they were naked; (Gen 3:6-7)
The above verse tells us that the invisible being the devil who was cast away from heaven by God, entered the Garden of Eden, got into the serpent and started speaking to the first human pair that God had created. He worked out a strategy to tempt the first human pair. By his questioning he appeals and creates in the first human pair 1) A lust of their flesh- woman saw that the tree was good for food, 2) A lust of the eyes- that it was pleasant to the eyes. 3) To the pride of life - and a tree desirable to make one wise.
We read in the original rebellion "So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.Notice the word that serpent of old, who deceives the whole world. Contrast the serpents plot detailed above to separate and deceive the first human pair from their spiritual relationship with God. That is why it is referred as old who keeps doing the same thing with every human being of the world.
