I (Jesus Christ) have come that they may have life, and they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10) So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.(Hebrews 9:28)

What is in a Name?

For in Him (Jesus Christ) dwells all the fullness of Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power (Colossians 2:9-10)

On July 20th 2014 after attending the Church, I returned to my home. I opened the gate of the safety grill of the balcony at the entrance to my house. I saw the Sunday times lying on the floor. I picked up the paper and saw immediately at its front page where it was written "what is in a name."?

At once I felt a quickening in my Spirit as if the Holy Spirit was prompting me to explore the various names of God recorded in the Bible and its relevance to the Name of Jesus,The Name above all Names.

What is in a person's Name? A name is representative of the person, It personifies his character. It identifies him and sets him apart from every one else. When we call someone by his name we are not just speaking a name, we are declaring something about Him.

The Bible verses mentioned above talk about Jesus. So when we speak the Name of Jesus, we are not speaking a name, we are declaring that this name Jesus embodies power(not the human power) but all the power and authority of God.When we speak the name we are describing the person. Jesus means Saviour and so we call him according to what He does.

The Bible teaches us that there is no other name which is above the Name of Jesus. It teaches us that at the mention of the Name of Jesus every creature must bow, that Jesus name has power and authority in Heaven, on Earth and under the Earth.

On exploring the Bible we find various names of God are used in the scriptures. A name of God when used in the Bible is not merely a designation. It reveals the characteristics about God and when we reflect on them it should have a bearing in our lives and character.
