Whom God hath set forth to be a
propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the
remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; (Romans 3:25)
When we say sins (Plurality) that which we have committed
before God, they are many and can be numbered out, whereas when we say sin
(singular) it is a principle working in us. No matter how many sins we commit,
it is always the one sin principle that leads to them.
We need forgiveness for our sins, but at the same time we
also need deliverance from the power of sin. Forgiveness of sins touches our
conscience, Deliverance from sin touches our life. We may receive forgiveness
for all our sins, but because of the sinful nature we have, we will have no abiding
peace of mind.
We cry out for forgiveness, when God's light first shines
into our heart, since we realize we have
committed sins before Him; but when once we have received forgiveness of our sins,
we also find out that not only we have
committed sins before God, but that there is something wrong within us. We then
learn that we have the nature of a sinner. There is an inward inclination to
sin, i.e a power inward that draws us to sin. When that power breaks out we commit
sin.
Even though, we may seek and receive forgiveness, there exists
a tendency and we sin once more. So life goes on in a vicious circle of sinning
and being forgiven and then sinning again. We could appreciate the fact of
God's forgiveness which is a blessing, but still we want something more than
that: We want deliverance. So to conclude, we need forgiveness for what we have
done, at the same time we also need deliverance from what we are.
Verses to ponder:
Much more then, being now justified by
his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.(Romans 5:9)
The word of
God is very clear, that God has only one answer to every human need -- His Son,
Jesus Christ. In all His dealings with us, God works by taking us out of the
way and substituting Christ in our place. The Son of God died in place of us
for our forgiveness: The aspect of the work of the Lord Jesus which is
represented by `the Blood' shed for our justification through "the
remission of sins" deals with what we have done.
Knowing this, that our old man is
crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that
henceforth we should not serve sin.(Romans 6:6)
The Son of God lives instead of us for our Deliverance. The
aspect of His work represented by `the Cross', that is to say, by our union
with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection deals with what we are.
